Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using GradeVelocity, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the service.

Description of Service

GradeVelocity is an AI-powered grading assistant that helps teachers provide feedback on student assignments. The service:

  • Connects to Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Brightspace) to import assignments
  • Uses AI to generate draft feedback based on your rubrics and preferences
  • Provides tools for reviewing and editing AI-generated feedback
  • Submits approved grades and feedback back to your LMS

User Responsibilities

As a user of GradeVelocity, you agree to:

  • Review all AI-generated feedback before submitting to students
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials and LMS API tokens
  • Comply with your institution's policies regarding AI tools in education
  • Use the service only for legitimate educational purposes
  • Not share your account with others

AI-Generated Content

GradeVelocity uses third-party AI services to generate feedback suggestions. You acknowledge that:

  • AI-generated feedback is a starting point and should be reviewed and edited as needed
  • You are responsible for the final feedback submitted to students
  • AI systems may occasionally produce inaccurate or inappropriate content
  • The quality of AI feedback depends on the clarity of your rubrics and instructions

API Keys and Third-Party Services

To use GradeVelocity, you may need to provide API keys for:

  • Your Learning Management System (Canvas or Brightspace)
  • AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google)

You are responsible for complying with the terms of service of these third-party providers. Usage of AI APIs may incur costs according to your agreements with those providers.

Intellectual Property

You retain all rights to your content, including rubrics, feedback templates, and grading configurations you create. Student work remains the property of the respective students and institutions.

Limitation of Liability

GradeVelocity is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for:

  • Errors or inaccuracies in AI-generated feedback
  • Disruptions to service availability
  • Issues arising from third-party services (LMS, AI providers)
  • Consequences of grades or feedback submitted through the service

Subscriptions and Credits

GradeVelocity uses a credit-based billing system. You may acquire credits through:

  • Free tier: 500 credits per month, included with every account
  • Paid subscriptions: Monthly credit allocations based on your plan
  • Top-up purchases: One-time credit pack purchases

Credit costs vary by AI model used. Premium models require more credits per submission. Current pricing and model multipliers are displayed in the application.

Credit Expiration Policy

Credits have different expiration rules based on their source:

  • Subscription credits: Expire at the end of your billing period. Unused subscription credits are forfeited unless rollover is enabled for your plan.
  • Rollover credits: Credits rolled over from a previous billing period expire at the end of the current period.
  • Top-up credits: Expire 12 months from the date of purchase. Expiration is refreshed with each grading activity.

Credits are consumed in the following order: subscription credits first, then rollover credits, then top-up credits. This ensures your most durable credits are preserved longest.

Subscription Terms

  • Billing cycle: Subscriptions are billed monthly on the date of initial subscription
  • Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the billing date
  • Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or the billing portal
  • Effect of cancellation: Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period. No prorated refunds are provided for unused time.
  • Plan changes: Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the next billing period

Refund Policy

Our refund policy varies by purchase type:

  • Subscriptions: No refunds for partial months. If you experience technical issues preventing service use, contact support within 7 days.
  • Top-up credits: Unused top-up credits may be refunded within 14 days of purchase, minus any credits already consumed. Refund requests must be submitted through customer support.
  • Free credits: Free tier and promotional credits are not refundable or exchangeable for cash.
  • Service issues: If AI service outages or technical problems prevent credit usage, affected credits will be restored to your account.

Payment Processing

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. Your payment information is securely processed by Stripe and never stored on our servers. By making a purchase, you agree to Stripe's terms of service.

Account Termination & Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through your Account Settings. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or are used for purposes other than legitimate educational grading.

Self-Service Deletion

Account deletion is available through your Account Settings. Before deleting:

  • Active subscriptions must be cancelled first - You cannot delete your account while you have an active paid subscription. Cancel via the Billing Portal first.
  • Export your data - We recommend downloading your data export before deletion, as this action is permanent.
  • Password confirmation required - You must confirm your password to complete deletion.

What Happens When You Delete

  • Immediately deleted: Your personal information (name, email), LMS connections, grading sessions, prompts, rubrics, and voice samples
  • Anonymized and retained: Financial records (subscriptions, credit purchases, transactions) are anonymized but retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance
  • Remaining credits: All credits are forfeited and cannot be refunded upon deletion

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will notify users of significant changes.
